The National Economic Council (NEC) has today kickstarted the Centennial Vision 2060 Phase III Inception Workshop in Mogadishu.
The workshop which involved presentations and panel discussion, saw presentations from National Economic Council experts on findings from nationwide sectoral assessments conducted under Phase II covering governance, human capital development, the productive sector, infrastructure, trade, regional integration, and private sector-led growth which underpin Somalia’s ambitious Centennial Vision 2060 (CV2060).
Chief of Staff of the Presidency Abdihakim Yusuf commended stakeholders for their invaluable input to Somalia’s Centennial Vision 2060 initiative while underscoring its significant role in Somalia’s path to prosperity.
In his address, Mr. Mohamed Shire, Director General of the Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development (MOPIED), underscored the workshop as a foundational step solidifying Somalia’s commitment to achieving Vision 2060.
On his part, the Chief Economic Advisor and Executive Director of NEC, Hassan Adam Hosow, extended gratitude on behalf of NEC to the partners, experts, and stakeholders for their participation and significant contributions.
Stakeholders including senior officials from the Federal Government of Somalia, Federal Member States, and esteemed development partners such as the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), UNCT, and the World Bank, alongside civil society organizations, the private sector, academia, and research institutions convened at Mogadishu’s AAIA where intensive discussions were witnessed during day 1 of the workshop.
Members of the National Economic Advisory Council including Mohamed Osman, Maluka Abdulkadir, Kamalidin Sheikh, Nimo Mohamud, and Mahad Mohamed were also in attendance where they made presentations during the various sessions.
The workshop underscores Somalia’s commitment to realizing its developmental aspirations outlined in CV2060, aiming to elevate Somalia to a middle-income status by 2060.
