The study examines the pivotal constraints and prospects for women’s economic involvement in Somalia. Despite progress made in economic recovery, gender inequality persists as a substantial obstacle, with Somalia exhibiting a relatively high ranking on the Gender Inequality Index. The study indicates that women’s low literacy rates, restricted access to financial resources, and adherence to societal norms collectively restrict their economic contributions. The study underscores the necessity for a strategic framework to empower women economically, which should include addressing structural barriers, enhancing access to education, and improving financial inclusion.
The study delineates the pivotal role that women play in Somalia’s economic landscape, emphasizing their contributions to small businesses and the informal sector. It calls for the implementation of comprehensive policies that foster women’s empowerment and participation in decision-making processes. By identifying the key obstacles and proposing strategic initiatives, this study aims to unlock women’s potential as drivers of sustainable economic growth in Somalia.
