The Outcomes of the NEC Nairobi Workshop

The National Economic Council (NEC) organized a workshop in Nairobi from March 9th to March 14th, 2024. The main objective of the workshop was to discuss and    Plan the Council’s internal affairs, including the annual work plan, strategic plan, and operational manual.

Additionally, the workshop aimed to engage with the Kenya Vision 2030 secretariat, KIPPRA, and the World Bank Group to share knowledge and explore potential areas for future collaborations. This report outlines the outcomes of NEC’s internal deliberations and engagements with relevant institutions.

 

The workshop had several important goals to achieve, including: 

  1. Review and discuss key achievements from the last year and provide an overview of ongoing activities, including pending research products, the formulation of the CV2060 and the preparation of the State of the Economy Report.
  2. Plan the 2024 annual work plan for the NEC.
  3. Revisit the NEC’s original work streams to ensure they are fit for purpose.
  4. Discuss the development of a strategic plan and follow-up of the NEC bill to ensure the sustainability of the Council.
  5. Engage with relevant institutions to share knowledge, learn from best practices, and establish relationships for future collaborations and partnerships.

In conclusion, the workshop achieved its objectives of discussing the Council’s internal affairs, planning the annual work plan, revisiting the original work streams, and engaging with relevant institutions for future collaborations.

The NEC’s internal deliberations covered a range of important topics, including ongoing activities, pending research products, the formulation of the CV2060, and the preparation of the State of the Economy Report.

The workshop also focused on developing a strategic plan for NEC to ensure the Council’s sustainability. Overall, it provided a platform for the NEAs and technical staff to review their achievements, plan for the future, and strengthen partnerships with relevant institutions.
