1st NATIONAL ECONOMIC POLICY FORUM

 

The Federal Government of Somalia established a National Economic Council (NEC) on the 11th of August 2018, chaired by the President of the FGS, and the Prime Minister as alternate together  with  the  Presidents  of  Federal  Member  States,  the  economic  sub-committee  of Cabinet, the Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia, and five (5) national economic advisors. The five national economic advisor and four international counterparts form a National Economic Advisors (NEA) team. The NEC is manded to improve public policy-making for the realization of national development goals, through policy analysis, economic forecasting, research, and formulation of medium and long-term strategic perspectives for economic and social development.

Upon the establishment of the council, the NEA members started drafting policy papers and conducted the first National Economic Policy Forum (NEPF) on the 13th of November, 2018, for one day in Mogadishu. The forum brought together over 200 participants, including high- level government officials, development partners and representatives from the private sector, civil society, academia, media, and women’s organizations.
